I can certainly understand why someone would feel that way. I'm only a few hours in, but every single conversation in this game leaves me with a big dorky grin on my face.
It's so nice to actually have a happy Final Fantasy protagonist for a change, isn't it? Zidane is the first (and if I'm remembering correctly, only) FF protagonist to not come prepackaged with angst.
A lot of people don't like FFIX for the deformed style the character models use, the medieval setting (FFVII and FFVIII had futuristic settings) and the borked battle system. As much as I love FFIX, the battle system is probably my second least favorite battle system of the latter half FFs, after XII's absolutely shitty "let's try to emulate an MMO!" system.
