You know how in Star Trek, whenever they want to establish the episode's villain as a physical threat, they have him show up and kick the crap out of Worf, on the basis that Worf is the toughest guy on board the Enterprise and as such showing him get his ass kicked demonstrates what a total badass said villain is? Or how Vegeta never wins a fight of any real importance after his introductory arc, and instead is just a punching bag for the arc's Big Bad so they can show off how powerful he is? Or how one of the first things that happens in almost every X-Men Crossover since the eighties is that the big bad villain Stops The Unstoppable Juggernaut?

Yeah, that.
