Pet Peeve Of The Day
People saying that girls in shounen are always just support role characters and we should never expect anything else from them. Not only is that a piss-poor excuse for raw chauvanism on the part of the author, It is factually bogus.
If you want to have a serious discussion about gender relations within shounen as a genregraphic, then fine, let's do that. And there's certainly a lot to talk about. But pretending that the world of shounen has not moved on or changed since the days of Dragonball and Fist of the North Star so that you can make excuses for an author's sexism is just not going to fly with me.
Shit, even Dragonball had Vegeta getting his ass handed to him by a girl. But I digress.
On a tangentially related note, am I the only one not buying the 'Sakura stands absolutely no chance against Sasuke' line? I'm sorry but Sasuke just...does not seem that impressive to me outside of his bullshit eye powers, but if he uses those much more he's going to go blind.

On the other hand, if Kishimoto arbitrarily decides he feels like having a damsel for Naruto and the boys to show up and save from her own Foolish Attempt To Fight A Man? Sakura could be the fecking Hokage and she'd still get her clock cleaned.

(In other news, it would be totally awesome if Sasuke went blind. Seriously, think of all the problems it would fix. Not to mention the karma of it...)
