pikabot: (This is getting stupid!)

Icons are a wonderful thing. I myself have quite a broad collection, spanning almost every possible need, from anger to pity to sadness to joy to laughter. People spend hours every day making these wonderful things for our viewing pleasure, which is totally appreciated as my shop-fu is severely weak.

Often, text are applied to these images. This can also be a very good thing: [livejournal.com profile] gabenut, in particular, makes highly effective use of text in her icons. This is not what bothers me. What does bother me is icons like this:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Or, to be more specific, this portion of it:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The box of tiny, tiny, tiny text. No magnifying glass in the WORLD will allow me to read that text. It is eenie, it is bitsy, it is wee.

This just drives me up the wall. What is the fucking point of that? Why bother? Nobody can READ your text, typing it out's just a waste of your time, and nine times out of ten winds up detracting from the overall aesthetic.

I know it's not particularly rational, but...argh, do I ever hate those icons.

I agree with this post. I don't mind a line tiny text as like a line for decorative effect, but a block of text annoys me.

YES

I myself don't mind one or two lines of tiny text underneath a larger word or words just for aesthetic purposes, but a whole army of tiny words looks stupid. Especially when the artist can't even use Photoshop/a decent tiny text brush/MS Paint properly and just makes an opaque box with size-one font. BLEH.

Fucking signed.

I refuse to use an LJ icon that I can't read the text of. For all I know, that block of text says horrible things about my mother and the maker is laughing at me every time I use it.
