I know nothing about the upcoming US Election. I don't really need to, what with living in Canada, but I just feel I need that to preface this. So I have no idea if this is a good thing in the long run, or if I'll be regretting thinking this way in a year's time.

But damn, I am surely enjoying watching things blow up in Hillary Clinton's face at the moment.

Oh, Barack Obama beat her in the first caucus or whatever (Look, I can't pretend to understand your crazy american system, it is hella confusing). Which is bad for her becasue one, she was pretty much running her campaign to date by casting herself as an inevitability, and two, she was assuming she'd win that, and suddenly the advantages she would have enjoyed if she had are in Obama's hands.

The Canadian system is so much simpler: the parties decide their leaders on their own time and then on election day you go for the party you think should win.

See, THIS is why the American system is ridiculous.

Because Obama won ONE caucus in a SINGLE state - ONE!!!!!!!!! (emphasis on "one") Hillary Clinton is suddenly out of the race and written off as someone who's going to lose.

This is entirely media generated. Bill Clinton didn't win Iowa, for instance. What's happening is that the media's desperate to pick a winner. So, they'll latch on to the first sign that someone's in the lead via a vote of some sort, no matter how ridiculous it is. Just because a fraction of Iowans thought that Obama was better, suddenly he's going to win the Democratic nomination.

This from the same media that told the American people that McCain had a good chance. Then he imploded, and suddenly Guiliani was the candidate. He had NO substance other than "Mr. 9-11", so they moved on to Fred Thompson. He had no substance either, so they moved on to Romney, who was spending money left right and center. Then, on to Huckabee since he's popular with the religious right (which is a large group in Iowa, thus his primary win. But it's not HUGE for the USA). Then back to McCain because he's recovering again.

Yeah, I have no idea how things are going to turn out in the end. All I know is that things aren't going Hillary's way right now, and that makes me happy.
