You know, life can sometimes throw you curveballs, but the weirdest shit you generally inflict on yourself. I'd never realized it before, but bizarrely enough, now that I look at it the book that had the single biggest impact on my writing style was Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher, a book written for ten-year-olds.

Really. I just met Bruce Coleville a couple of weeks ago. Awesome fella and a great speaker. I got an autographed copy of that book.

Seriously, though, I love Coville and Jeremy Thatcher is his best work. It had just never occurred to me before but the topic came up due to a meme that's floating around, and suddenly I realized..."Oh, I get that from that book. And that. And tha-...wait a minute"

I did and we had a great conversation after he gave this great talk about kids and storytelling and writing and how all we are really looking for is a good story to be told to us. He was funny and just awesome.

I'm a librarian, so I was invited to hear him speak at a conference.

Why do I suddenly want to see a fic where Luffy feeds Chopper some... man I forget what it was, but yes and then Chopper takes a raging crap on Luffy's sandals?

I read that book as twenty-something and love it passionately to this day. I'd say you are well inspired :)
