RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM THE FLOOR OF A CHAPTERS

1. WTF, you have volumes four through twenty of Eyeshield 21, but not the first three? FAIL.

Oh well, it's a Viz release. It probably sucks anyways. =/

2. Why would anyone in their right mind want to buy a Naruto art book? Kishimoto's art is decent at BEST.

3. Look, I realize I'm not the target audience. I'm male, adult, and I like my manga with punching up ins and not so much the boring romance plots and sparkles.

But, regardless, I'm appalled that Shojo Beat magazine felt that this monstrosity was a good choice for cover art.

Seriously, it's horrifying. Someone better have lost their job over this. Christ.

:/

Fugly cover art always turns me off, regardless of the content. It took a glowing review from Anime News Network (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/minima/gn-1) to make me even consider checking out Minima!- they specifically say in the review that the story and art are much better than the crap on the cover.

For srs, people. Don't you know how everybody judges books?

What the hell was that Shojo Beat thing alfdasl

It...it's like Tohru Honda, only 10 clonings later, with brain cells dying with each generation. (Mind you, I'm very fond of Tohru, but that girl looks scary...)

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Tohru Honda is the main character of Fruits Basket. She's very dim but all heart (and has some pretty impressive angst for a fluffheaded shoujo heroine) and has giant, empty eyes that threaten to suck out your soul. I love the girl, but there isn't much upstairs, and that art makes her look like a genius.

(For some strange reason, I suddenly wanted to compare her to Orihime, though I don't know why. They're both big hearted and smarter than they initally appear[though intuitive is probably more accurate in Tohru's case] but really not very alike.)

It probably doesn't help that Tohru is also usually a boy's name.

(I don't know! I mean, I get dismissing her early on, because it initially looks like she's just the nice-but-ultimately-unimportant girl with a crush on Ichigo, but she tries so hard! And is so determined! How can they not love her??!?!)

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha Ha...yes.

(Trying to catch him? Oh, Orihime... Though I guess she could have thought her...uhm..."padding" would help...)

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I mean, if there was anything vaguely resembling an actual triangle over Rukia/Ichigo/Orihime, I could possibly understand it(strongly disagree with it, but then at least I'd know where the insanity was coming from) but it's just so...bizarre.

(I think she was thinking "OH NO! Boy I have a massive crush on is falling! Must catch!")

ETA: BTW, does the Fairy Tail fandom do this (or anything like it) over LUcy and Ezra? Or is it even big enough to have those issues?

Ah, cool. I don't know yet if I'm even going to look into the fandom as most manga fandoms assume you read the scanslations, and I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to do that, or stick with the US releases. Of course, I thought the D.Gray-Man fandom was sane, and then I learned it was "Lenalee was hurt in battle that one time she saved everyone's lives and couldn't fight for a while, so obviously she's useless and sucks."

I hate being behind, but I really just can't stand reading manga on the computer. The series I read scanslations of are mostly series where most of the people I know do read the scanslations, and assume everyone's up-to-date, so it's mostly anti-spoiler preservation. The exceptions are D.Gray-Man and Claymore, where I read a volume and couldn't wait to see what happened next.

I've peeked around a teeny bit and noticed some Lucy/Natsu and Ezra/Gray stuff, but that's about it. I assume there's Natsu/Gray out there, as it fits the standard slash trends, but I haven't seen it. (Nor do I want to.)

I expected a lot worse when you called it a monstrosity and now it looks kind of okay by comparison.
