This could be just me, and I could be completely offbase here, but...is it just me, or does the Sokka/Toph fanbase sort of read their pairing into completely unrelated fanfiction? I know I've gotten reviews for non-Sokka/Toph fanfiction that went on about 'the little bit of Sokka/Toph at the end', etc., and I've seen it happen to other pieces too. It wouldn't really be noteworthy, except that I've never seen this for any other pairing.

Yeah. What brings it up is this adorable fic, where the first commentator added that she loved the 'slight hint of Sokka/Toph at the end there'.

That slight hint? Is this:

“Hey Toph,” said Sokka, and the Duke snapped to attention. “Can I talk to you for a second?”

Just...what?

It's better than the insane wankery most of the major pairings in Avatar Fandom generate, but it's still a little bit of the crazy.

Maybe some folks take any sort of interaction between characters as shipping, especially those who are fond of a particular pairing or desperate to see said pairing written for.

I'm not too familiar with Avatar stuff, but I'm pretty sure it happens in a lot of other fandoms.
